This article will briefly discuss the sociology of human behavior and perceptions regarding a persons appearance ad peoples perceptions and judgements based on those photographs or in person. This article will discuss the results of a brief experiment where a photo was changed on a Facebook profile for a short period of time to see the reaction people would have, and comment about, after seeing a "more socially acceptable" picture for quite some time previous to the experiment. The photo used in this experiment was that of myself in my robe during the time I owned The Witches Haven. I have had a more conservative photo on the profile for 6 months now.

A common question related to sociology deals with the nature of the human being versus the way it is raised. Does one know if he is a boy or a girl upon birth, or does he make this distinction based on the actions and words of those around him? How does prison affect the functionality of a person once he is released to the world? These questions are strongly related to the nature versus nurture - does a human enter the world with basic human function, or does he develop these functions as a result of those around him.
While the humanities have suffered what a US Congressman calls a triple whammy, he sees value in these studies. James A. Leach was appointed by President Barack Obama last year to head the National Endowment for the Humanities. In a November/December issue of the agency's Humanities magazine, he admitted that the economy, reduced government capacities and a focus on more job-intensive vocational training have affected studies in the humanities.
Sexual therapists have observed that women have been losing an interest in sex which is posing to be a serious problem across the world. There are two broad categories which can be attributed to this lack in the desire for sex namely sociological and biological factors. Biological factors: Certain changes like hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, physical changes and other health conditions are also certain factors which lead to a fall in prolcatin.
Sociologists have covered a broad amount of material in their accumulated studies. Some, like Karl Marx, studied broad topics related to the whole of societies. He theorized that the root of human misery lies in the uneven distribution of wealth in society. Others, like Emile Durkheim, focused on more concise topics. He concentrated much of his effort on determining why certain sects of people are more apt to commit suicide than others. Still others, like Max Weber, studied patterns in culture throughout history to determine how much a social group can affect one's life. Though many sociologists study different topics, all use their recorded data to produce theories. These theories suggest how certain parts of the world fit together and how they work. If you break theories down further, you can sort them into three distinct categories: symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory. All three can use different observations to prove the same point. |
